Paleo Diet – Pitfalls To Be Aware Of
There are several pitfalls to know of when it comes to following a Paleo diet to ensure that you avoid them. If you aren’t careful you could end up derailing your efforts of following a much healthier lifestyle.
So just what are the kinds of pitfalls you might expect to come across?
1. Cheating On The Paleo Diet
I’ll only say this one don’t cheat!!!! It just isn’t worth it. Having a piece of bread or a glass of milk could start all those problems you had before you followed your new diet. It will be hard at first, but if you are willing to stick with it, it will become easier later on. Then at some point, you will suddenly realize you aren’t missing those foods that you thought you couldn’t live without before.
2. Phobia Of Fat
This is the biggest problem faced by many on this diet, and as a result, they aren’t eating sufficient amounts of fat. Remember you will eliminate quite a few foods from this diet such as grains, beans and bread and the calories that these supplied, need to be provided through some other source. One way is through eating sufficient amounts of healthy fat.
PLEASE NOTE IT ISN’T FAT THAT MAKES YOU FAT!!!!
Rather it is the food toxins found in foods like fructose, seed oil, and wheat that help you gain weight. However, you need to realise that fat is our bodies preferred source of fuel and should make up about 60 to 70% of the calories you eat.
3. Becoming Obsessed
It is vital that you try and relax into this new diet as much as you can. Never spend time over analysing what it is you are eating, rather enjoy the Paleo diet food. Make preparing meals as much fun as possible, then ensure that you give yourself plenty of time to savour what you have created. Search for recipes that look good to you. When it comes to cooking remember you will use delicious foods that contain high amounts of nutrients. Now tell me could this be worse!!
4. Don’t Plan Enough
If you are intending to go out for a meal with your friends then make sure you select a place that will meet your particular needs. Don’t be afraid to call the restaurant to see if they offer a gluten-free alternative. Also, only select restaurants that offer meat and vegetable dishes, plus order a salad on the side.
You should never end up in a situation when you are following a Paleo diet plan where you are starving yourself because you have planned for all things in advance, and finding yourself eating something you shouldn’t because that is all that is available to you.
5. Not Enough Support
Making such big changes will be hard, but if you have plenty of support when making these changes you will find the going a lot easier. See if you can get your partner or a great friend to make these changes along with you. Also, join a Paleo diet or Caveman diet forum online where others have taken the same approach as you and can provide not only support but also advice and answer questions you may have.
